Daniel Dominey

Director and Lead Instructor

I was born profoundly Deaf, so I understand first-hand both the challenges and the joys of navigating the world of communication. My own experiences as a learner shaped my passion for teaching British Sign Language (BSL) in a way that is engaging, supportive, and accessible.

Over the past seven years of teaching BSL, I’ve honed my trademark style: fun, interactive sessions packed with games and practical activities that help learners build real confidence.

Along the way, I’ve set up sign language courses in universities and schools, and founded the National Network of University Sign Language Societies. I’ve also mentored Deaf students, helping them celebrate their identity and feel confident in who they are.

Through Sign Away BSL, we share not just language, but also the richness of Deaf culture - opening the door to a vibrant and diverse community. Our goal is simple: to make learning sign language enjoyable, inclusive, and confidence-building for everyone.

Outside the classroom, I’m a creative soul with a love for woodwork and 3D printing, which gives me another way to express ideas and bring them to life.
